It belonged to my mother's boyfriend Jim and he was an astute art collector. I think the word protege was used, but no, I'm not sure it was Thompson. Jim has been dead for quite a while now and I'm getting a little soft in the head so the details are a bit sketchy.
This oil painting was done by a former student of Tom Thompson and I love it!!

Tom had students? I'm not sure about that. He was usually alone in the parks painting or swilling booze with the other "6."
